Summer Madness: Etude 1

Summer is my favorite time of the year, and like a wild person with tons of ideas, it seems to be the time when I work the most. And when I work the most I end up in unique situations sometimes really amazing, sometimes challenging. I think it's from the longer days, or the euphoria that comes from the weather, but like a madman I just create. For all my work I'm interested in capturing human emotions and feelings, particularly unposed, and ideally without real people. I never use references everything I draw is a full reaction to what I see, what I'm feeling, and what I'm going through at the moment. There are so many parts of the human experience from happiness to indifference and much of that is, to me, captured in the eyes and the lips. Sometimes isolating these can be frightening, because the human experience remains disparate when dissociated from the body. I also love working with graphite because the focus on brightness and darkness (value) creates surprisingly comforting levels of familiarity for my brain, which allows paper and pencil to turn into a truly experimental tool that any person with a visual sense can understand.
